How Would Your Corporate Website Report Card Make You Feel?

If you were to receive an independent evaluation of your corporate digital channels, how do you think you would react? Would you be proud of your team and want to share it with your colleagues, your stakeholders – your CEO even?

Does the very thought of it cause you to feel a little nervous?

Bowen Craggs have been evaluating corporate digital estates for more than 20 years. Our clients use their ranking in the Corporate Digital Communications Index in different ways depending on where they place.

Reactions to the ranking are not what you might think

A poor ranking in the Index (in the lower quartile, for example) can actually be good for digital teams if it backs up what they have been saying to their colleagues all along and shines an external light on a clear point of failure in the organisation. Then it’s the ticket to more attention and investment.

We have rarely been taken to task for providing a “bad” report card

This is because the analysis behind the ranking is so detailed, and completely constructive. Our clients come away with in-depth scoring on 26 individual sub-metrics, they understand their strengths and weaknesses, and can plan a roadmap of improvements.

High scorers don’t just sit back

Companies rarely go straight in to the Index in the top quartile, but when it happens, the congratulations die down more quickly than you might think. It turns out these teams are just as focused, if not more so, on what they can do to move even higher.

They have usually picked off the low-hanging fruit. They then use their ranking as an incentive to take on the thorny governance and collaboration issues that hold back the very good from being the very best.

These teams also find a way to embed the annual ranking in their organisation – by tying it to staff performance reviews and ensuring that their ranking gets mentioned in company-wide internal channels.
